Beneficiary Identification for Housing For All (HFA)

ConsoTree has always been choosy in selecting programs that impactslives, such as Skill Management, Entrepreneurship, Job creation or Poverty Alleviation. HFA or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will provide central assistance to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) & implementing agencies through States/UTs for:

1. In-situ Rehabilitation of existing slum dwellers
2. Credit Linked Subsidy
3. Affordable Housing in Partnership
4. Subsidy for Beneficiary-led individual house construction.

ConsoTree’s Role

ConsoTree was engaged as an Agency for Demand Survey or Beneficiary identification, appointed by ULB – Madurai City Corporation

1. Explaining the Scheme to BPL (Below Poverty Line) beneficiaries
2. Ward-wise Demand Survey in Madurai Municipal Corporation
3. Filling forms on behalf of Beneficiaries and duly verify the particulars
4. Data Consolidation

Transforming ITI (Electrician) students as Entrepreneurs

The context

Being a fast-growing state and hungry for resources, Tamilnadu faced an acute power shortage in the mid of 2012. The then chief minister decided to use renewable energy to eco-friendly homes (பசுமை வீடுகள்) constructed for rural poor people. The government built 100’s of Thousans of homes with Solar UPS and inverter that caters to a set of home lightings such as LED / LCD lamps. This involves commissioning of solar panels on the roof top and installation of UPS / inverter in the home and carry out wiring for electrical appliances and home lightings. This work was coordinated by Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), Outsourced to larger companies such as Tata Power and AEG power.

The opportunity

These companies in turn looking out for local electrical contractors to carry out the job. As a part of the main contractor ecosystem in the region, ConsoTree, instead of resorting to electricians in the market wanted to create a set of electricians with entrepreneurial spirit.

ConsoTree’s Role

• Shortlisted 12 batches of ITI certified Electricians
• Subsidized (75%) on Tool kits (worth INR 7000).
• Trained to commission Solar Panels / Inverters and Wiring
• Coached on various aspects of doing business such as Inventory, Accounting & Management reporting
• Help to sustain profitable businesses
• Help to the government and entire ecosystem

• Successfully Created of 12 new Entrepreneurs
• Helped to start business easily with zero captial
• Creation of jobs (70+ people)
